Janet Coutts is founder of and principal teacher at the Norwood Yoga House. She has been practising yoga for over 20 years. Janet was a secondary school teacher for 15 years before moving to a career in Yoga teaching. After training as a teacher with the International Yoga Teachers Association (IYTA) in 1995, she began teaching in the Norwood area.
While teaching she has continued her yoga studies in the tradition of Krishnamacharya, allowing her to grow and to develop her teaching skills to work with students individually or in groups – always respecting the students’ individual needs and modifying/extending the Yoga appropriately.
Janet has taught Yoga for 15 years, in a broad range of situations, including – general classes, individual sessions, school groups in both the public and private sector (Years 9 – 12), Magill Training Centre (detention centre for children), with patients at the Royal Adelaide Hospital, Health Development Conferences, Yatala Women’s Prison.
While teaching and pursuing her own professional development Janet has also worked in a mentoring role with Yoga teacher trainees. The strength of Janet's teaching lies in her wealth of experience and in her post-graduate study with her teacher, Barbara Brian (Agama Yoga Centre for Health and Healing, Melbourne) and senior teachers from the Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandarim, Chennai, India.
Post-graduate qualifications include Senior Teacher with Yoga Australia and Yoga Therapist with AAYT. This knowledge and experience leads Janet to be very well equipped to teach Yoga as it is appropriate to the student.
