Yoga Therapy
What is Yoga Therapy?
Yoga Therapy supports individuals to manage their own health using the principles and practices of yoga.
Yoga Therapy is a specialised approach to yoga. Ill health and chronic injury are often made worse by multiple contributing factors.
Yoga Therapy was an holistic approach, addressing the wellbeing of the whole person, enhancing our own healing capacity; rather than working on the curing of one specific condition.
Hence, Yoga Therapy is well placed as a complimentary healing modality alongside a more medicalised, allopathic treatment.
Who is it for?
Yoga Therapy is for anyone who wants to improve their own wellbeing, physically, mentally and emotionally.
You do not need to have prior yoga experience to benefit from Yoga Therapy.
It can:
- Assist people recovering from injury to support the healing process.
- Complement the treatment of specific conditions, eg., IBS, osteoporosis, rheumatoid arthritis and many more.
- Help with insomnia, depression, anxiety, chronic pain and other conditions over which the mind has a large influence.
- Provide a framework for those wishing to develop a deeper understanding of themselves.
- Support the development towards a better quality of life.
What to expect
It is recommended that you begin with 4 sessions over 4-6 weeks.
Your Yoga Therapy sessions will start with a consultation.
In this consultation the therapist will be:
- listening to your concerns.
- observing your abilities and capacities (physically, energetically, mentally).
- Working to understand your needs and goals.
- Seeking an understanding of your lifestyle and routines.
This will be followed by 3 further sessions:
- Teaching you your personal yoga practice and drawing it up for you to take home.
- Refining the practice in line with your experience and feedback.
- consolidating the practice.
The follow-up sessions will be planned and booked according to your needs.
What does the student do in their home practice?

- Physical movements/postures (asana)
- Relaxation techniques
- Sound (chanting)
- Concentration/reflective practices (may sometimes be referred to as "mindfulness" leading to meditation)
